The award-winning rehabilitation project consisted of a six-lane heavily used commuter route providing an important connection between several major highways over the Hudson River in the State of New York. Work consisted of bridge deck replacement and structural steel repairs to five bridges, as well as replacement of 416 bearings, rehabilitation, or replacement of more than 15 piers, replacement or repair of interchange substructures, and installation of traffic monitoring systems. Halmar was responsible for MPT, structural lifting, bearing removal and replacements, earthworks, and drainage. ”Invisible construction” methods and use of an efficient movable zipper barrier resulted in minimal impacts and maximized safety as traffic was maintained in both directions. Accelerated bridge construction (ABC) techniques and use of innovative fast acting concrete mix enabled early project delivery, one month ahead of schedule.
