One of the most regulated watersheds in the U.S.

New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) commissioned the creation of Enhanced Wetlands to mitigate water quality in the Kensico Reservoir and affiliated streams. The project, located in one of the most regulated watersheds in the U.S., was comprised of two phases with two independent milestones, both related to the successful excavation, fine grading, stabilization and native landscaping of the project sites in accordance with NYCDEP and United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) requirements for the creation of enhanced compensatory wetlands. Phase 1, located in the North Castle site in Armonk, New York, was completed 36 days ahead of schedule; and Phase 2, located at the Eastview sites, was completed 100 days ahead of schedule, due to Halmar’s re-engineering of the excavation, export, and landscaping engineering and construction methods. In total, excavation of more than 70,000 tons of excess unsuitable soils was exported from the project site, and more than 300,000 aquatic plants, herbaceous shrubs, trees, and canopy trees were installed with minimal disturbance and impacts to water quality.
