Making it possible
This first of its kind Public Private Partnership (P3) is part of a vast $5.2 billion initiative promoted by the MTA to adapt the infrastructure of New York’s metropolitan subway stations to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and help achieve MTA’s ongoing mission to enhance accessibility throughout their subway system at an accelerated pace. This design, build, finance, and maintain (DBFM) contract includes 34 new elevators (20 new and 14 replacement) at 13 subway stations spanning across four boroughs; general improvements to path-of-travel, and associated state of good repair work at each of the 13 stations; as well as 24 stairs (13 new and 11 refurbished). The contract consists of a 15-year maintenance contract for the elevators with two optional 5-year extensions, totaling a 25-year term. Maintenance work includes major maintenance and life cycle improvements, handback requirements, and related duties and services.
