Halmar Transit JV completes bridge 5 months ahead of schedule in Cornwall, NY
The Halmar Transit JV is proud to share the completion of the Orange County Bridge #2 Replacement on Main Street in Cornwall, NY which was achieved five months ahead of schedule.
Originally built in 1929, this bridge serves as the gateway to the Cornwall Business District and needed a full replacement to meet modern safety and infrastructure standards.
The team built the new bridge and the surrounding area in four stages, with several key objectives in mind: maintaining uninterrupted two-way traffic, protecting the nearby stream’s environment, and safely relocating a vital 100-year-old waterline that serves Cornwall’s business district.
Heavy Civil Construction- Stages 1–2:
- Demolition of the existing bridge with complete protection of the stream
- Installation of soldier pile and lagging earth retention systems
- Drilled caisson piles, rock sockets and rock excavation
- Construction of large reinforced concrete foundations
- Installation of a 50-foot span, three-sided segmented precast concrete box culvert
- Coordination with utility providers to de-energize and relocate overhead power lines during critical phases of construction
Site work – Stages 3–4:
- Installation of new decorative parapets, waterline & utility relocations, vintage site lighting and a new traffic island
- Construction of curbs, sidewalks, grading and final site work
- Asphalt milling, paving, Line striping and final landscaping
Huge thank you to our dedicated crews and project partners who helped make this early delivery possible.
